Bring on Black Friday
November 21st, 2009 by jonkalvig

I enjoy shopping – one day a year. Each year I head out the day after Thanksgiving to take advantage of insane deals, while treading through insane lines. It’s not that I even come home with many items. I just love the experience. I love that it makes virtually no sense that I get up at 4:00am to stand in line outside, only to end up buying a $5 DVD. Yet I’ll do it again this week. This time Kelly won’t be able to join, so I’m open to any other nuts that want to have some fun on a Friday morning.

We’re less than a week away. I’ve done some homework and thought I’d offer you a few items that may convince you to get your butt out of bed on Friday.

  • Samsung 40” LCD HDTV. $597 at Best Buy. Currently selling for $799 at Target or $714 on sale at WalMart. Great television for a great deal.
  • DVD’s for just $3.99 at Target.
  • Or, if you are against the idea of standing in lines at 4:30am, choose from over 1000 DVDs for $3.99 HERE.
  • GPS system by TomTom (or TamTam if you change the personality to a British woman:). $58 at WalMart – a drop of thirty dollars from last year.
  • If you’re in the hunt for a quality digital camera for a good price, go for the Nikon Coolpix (Retails: $299) at Best Buy – marked down to $179.99
  • Another worthwhile investment is the George Foreman Mean Lean Grill for $9.99 at Kohl’s. Not to be mistaken with the one-up version which will be listed for $39.99 on Black Friday.
  • Perhaps Kohl’s has outdone the rest this year, offering a “Black Friday Sale” on every single item in the store. Either they’re having a going-out-of-business liquidation sale or they realize that American’s will spend over $11 billion this Friday.

The early bird catches the worm. And there are a lot of worms to be caught. Happy hunting.

I will take on the craziness with you for that $58 Tom Tom. I have been wanting a GPS system but have been too cheap to pay full price. Let me know if you find any good deals on telephoto lenses for cameras too because I’m wanting at least a 300mm lens, and they’re not cheap! Thanks for the info, broseph!

    Diane,

Best Buy has a Garmin on Black Friday for $99, which is $100 off the original price. Garmin is far superior to the Tom Tom, but it also costs more! :) It’s true that you really do get what you pay for.
