Jon, can I tell how much of Christian I am with this list? Cause I'm looking at 2/5. And since I may or may not have a tattoo that's NOT EVEN A BIBLE VERSE, maybe even more like 1/5.

I should be fired :)

Jon, thank you for this post. It made my day. I think I need to backtrack since I haven't read your blogs in awhile.

Comment: The fish sign has to be facing the correct direction to symbolize "Christian" -- fish head facing left. Otherwise it symbolizes "Darwin", whether it has feet or not.

So when I'm bored sitting at the light and ponder, is this person really a Christian? Or are they clueless and just have the fish facing the wrong direction? Or are they even more clueless and really a Darwinist? It's like those bumper stickers that say, "you can't be pro-choice AND Catholic". They should have one that says, "you can't be Christian AND believe in evolution".

And the mowing the lawn part .... I always wonder about the SUNDAY morning mower: are they Catholic or members of a church with a Saturday evening service?! Or do I need to invite them this Christmas or Easter? Besides mowers add Sunday morning family bike rides, husband AND wife walking the dog, younger male and female jogging together... hmmmmm.....

Great post, Jon! I am a huge believer that we are all born with creativity. Too often, especially as we get older, it seemingly disappears. Yet, I believe it's still there...we just may need to 'unbury' it. Living creatively doesn't mean I have to be an artist. Living creatively let's me live life with options, live life unstuck, live life with energy. I love the list of the top 5 qualities. Thanks! Very encouraging post!

Jon,

I like this blog..... I believe the last quality of "risk taking" is where Neil and I are in with our entrepreneur minds these days... HA .....Praying to God to show us where He wants us to be and then believing we can do all things through Him who gives us strength (and creativity!) Thanks for the blog! Sue

So sorry about this disappointment, brother. I wondered what happened with the marathon, and I know this isn't what you wanted. So I pray that you will be comforted, encouraged, and loved by your community in this time of disappointment. Oh, and check out this song. I've been listening to it on repeat the last few days in light of searching for what God has for me in the wake of some heart change over the last week or so, and think it also speaks to what you're talking about here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azMPsTfSjEY.

John I do know what you are talking about here. When you compare death with disappointment I agree and in some cases I think the disappointments (depending on what they are) can be more sever than death. I call it the death of a dream. It comes when you realize that that things you have worked for, hoped for and even prayed for does not and will not come to fruition. Honestly I think that often times that is one aspect of death that is so painful, all the hopes and dreams that you had for that person or that you know the person had. There is a grief process involved with losing a dream, even when it is just for a season. So feel free to hurt emotionally even as you heal physically. I'll be praying for your times next year. Boston will come, one way or another.

I can relate to this so well. I'll start with the last paragraph first. "Let us not run from God, or to sinful strongholds. But embrace the grace that will restore a right spirit within." I have been stuck on that thought for a few days now. What great advice. Secondly, I have found that my greatest disappointments in life thus far have led to my greatest victories/pleasures. While at the time of the disappointment, I could never comprehend how it could possibly turn into something good....but it always has. Always. Its weird how months down the road you can look back and lifes events and say "ahhhh, so thats why that happened the way it did." Good luck in your recovery from such a disappointment. :-/

This is a great post that everyone should consider because all of us have fears that limit us in a variety of ways. However, few take the time to understand their fears and even fewer take action to address their fears. Thanks for the post, Jon!
